LEAVING CERTIFICATE RESULTS 2011


Congratulations to Brendan Cagney, top points scorer at the Grammar School in this years Leaving Certificate examination. Brendan got 515 points.

Some other statistics:

The average number of points obtained by the class of 2011 was 336 points (National average = 305 points).

37.5% of Grammar School students obtained 400 or more points in the L.C. exam (National Average = 30.6%)

79% of Grammar School students obtained 300 or more points in the L.C. exam (National Average = 56.1%)

'A' grades on higher level papers were obtained in Art, English, Biology and Music.


Extra-curricular Activities 2011-12

Homework Club

Homework club runs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4.00 - 6.00 p.m.
There is no extra charge for homework club but places are linited to 32.

Basketball


Basketball takes place every Wednesday afternoon at Digges Street astro turf pitch starting at 1.45pm.

Football


Football takes place every Wednesday afternoon at the Cabbage Patch astro turf pitchfrom 1.00-2.00 pm.

Rugby


Rugby training for junior and senior boys will take place every monday afternoon at the Iveagh Grounds in Crumlin.

Hockey


Hockey coaching for both junior and senior girls takes place on monday afternoons at the Iveagh grounds in Crumlin. Senior girls may also join Guinness ladies hockey club and train with them too.

Fashion and Jewellery Making

Fashion jewellery making takes place every Wednesday at 1.45pm in room 2. Entries will be encouraged for the Griffith College Dress Design competition.

Drama runs on Tuesday afternoons at 4.00pm in the school Hall.

Green Schools


Students meet every Tuesday afternoon at 4.00 pm in room 2. We are currently working towards a Green Flag. Details from Ms Corkery.

Students Council

Elections were be held in September 2011 and each class elected two representatives to the students council. The students council is a vital opportunity for the students to have their voice heard as well as gain experience in debating issues that concern the student body. Details from Ms Hick.

Computer club


A computer club for form 1 and 2 students runs every Thursday at 4.00pm. More details from Ms McNamara.

Cathedral Girls Choir


The Girl's Choir rehearse every Wednesday afternoon 3.30-5.00pm. Mr Leigh is their Choirmaster. They sing at Evensong in the Cathedral every Wednesday and alternate Thursday evenings during term time. The service begins at 5.30pm sharp. All Grammar School Girls are welcome to audition for membership of the choir.

Gaisce


Some fifth year students who earned their bronze award in Transition Year are undertaking the Gaisce silver medal challenges. Their Gaisce leader is Ms Corkery.


EVENSONG


Each evening of the week our students are involved in choirs at choral evensong in the cathedral. This is a beautiful service and all parents and students are very welcome to attend.

The Cathedral Choristers and Martin Scholars sing on Tuesday, alternate Thursdays and Fridays. The Cathedral Girls Choir sing on Wednesday and alternate Thursdays.
